After more than fifteen years of leadership with Outlinc/OutNebraska, our founding Executive Director, Abbi Swatsworth, will be stepping down from her role later this year.

Abbi has been the driving force behind the growth of the organization from an all-volunteer effort in Lincoln to a statewide organization working across Nebraska. What began as a single paid staff member in 2019 has grown to a staff of five professionals, a fellow, additional interns, and hundreds of volunteers working together to empower, celebrate, and cultivate thriving LGBTQ+ communities across the state.

Her leadership, passion, and commitment have built the strong foundation that OutNebraska stands on today, and the organization will be able to carry on thanks to the groundwork that Abbi has laid.

Reflecting on her decision, “This has been on my heart for quite some time. I love this work, but it’s a cross-country marathon, not a 100-yard dash on a smooth track. I’m ready and eager to pass the baton to a new person who can lead OutNebraska and Nebraska’s queer and trans communities toward liberation in Nebraska.

I trust this team to carry on our vital work and appreciate the board as we work together during this transition. I know that after a thorough search, the organization will find another capable, passionate leader.” –Abbi Swatsworth

OutNebraska’s Board of Directors extends its deepest gratitude to Abbi for her years of dedication, vision, and courage. Her impact on Nebraska’s LGBTQ+ community cannot be overstated. Her legacy will continue to shape the work ahead.

As we prepare for this next chapter, the Board will soon begin the search for a new Executive Director to continue the vital work of OutNebraska.

Please join us in celebrating Abbi’s leadership and all she has accomplished for OutNebraska and LGBTQ+ Nebraskans everywhere by making a donation in her honor and/or joining us for an open house celebration on November 20th. More information about the open house will be coming.

Sincerely,
Demi Kulper
