What it would do: Allow for children being placed in foster care to placed with “chosen family” before an unknown foster-parent.
For LGBTQ+ youth, placement with affirming adults can be lifesaving. Fictive kin caregivers are more likely to: respect a child’s name, pronouns, and identity and provide emotional safety and cultural understanding.
