“Bittersweet,” was created with support provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. In the face of rapidly evaporating funding for these programs and a nationwide trend toward the criminalization of queerness, Miss Christine decided a tour was one the most essential and radical things they could do to push back—to be unapologetically yourself is an act of resistance and Miss Christine performances empower their audience to love and accept themselves unconditionally.
Christine Moad (they/them), a bassist and singer-songwriter recording under the moniker Miss Christine, blends indie rock with blues and soul influences, delivered with a defiant punk attitude to open listeners’ minds to possibilities beyond the gender and sexual binary. Their exploration of their own genderqueer and asexual identity inspires their lyrics, resulting in songs that are both intensely personal while simultaneously challenging the harmful stereotypes and expectations associated with gender and sexuality.
They have traveled the world from Tennessee to Monaco as a professionally touring bassist and graduated from Berklee College of Music before gaining experience as a session musician in Nashville. Christine defied expectations yet again by leaving Nashville behind for a farm near Iowa City where they write and record their original songs. Christine now lives in Cambridge, MA. Miss Christine released their debut solo album, “Conversion”, in 2019 and their sophomore album, “Bittersweet” in 2023.
Since 2023, Miss Christine has captivated audiences at colleges and youth organizations across the nation with their powerful ‘Empowering Identities’ presentation, sharing their journey of discovering their gender identity and asexuality, inspiring young people to explore and embrace their own truths.
Maybe you’ll “miss” the old Christine you thought you knew, but the authentic Christine isn’t letting that stop them from speaking their truth.
