Event Details

The Minority Health Disparities Initiative and Dr. Elliot Tebbe, Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology, will be hosting a conversation on Trans & Gender Diverse Health and Well-being.

Population research has consistently found that trans and gender diverse (TGD) people experience higher rates of adverse physical and mental health outcomes compared to their cisgender peers. Dr. Tebbe will begin the conversation hour by providing a brief overview of some of the systemic challenges TGD people face in Nebraska in regards to health outcomes and barriers to accessing appropriate trans-affirmative health services, as well as individual factors that promote and comprise well-being. After the overview, participants will be invited to engage in discussion about the ways in which we can join as a larger community with TGD individuals and allies to address these critical health outcomes and barriers through advocacy, education, and continued research.

The event will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm in the Nebraska Union  – Colonial A & B. This event is free, but we do kindly ask interested individuals to register on the MHDI website. Lunch will be provided.
