Mission of OutSpeaking
Increase awareness and understanding of the LGBTQA community and LGBTQA issues by providing the UNL and Lincoln communities with educational workshops and panels.
Personal perspectives on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Ally experiences are shared by students, parents, faculty/staff members, community members and/or parents. Educational panels can be arranged for classes, residence hall floor, fraternity/sorority chapter, athletic team, student organizations, or community organizations. The goal of the panel is understanding; many students who have attended panels state that they were able to get common questions answered and found the panels to be a great way to break stereotypes and assumptions about LGBTQA issues.
Workshops and Presentations
“Creating Safer Spaces” helps participants learn ways to create and provide safe space for all individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expression. Learning is interactive, relaxed and informal; participants are encouraged to engage new ideas without shame while being challenged to remove the barriers that limit the success of others.
LGBTQA Resource Center
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Ally Programs, Services & Resource Center advances the mission of UNL by working collaboratively to provide education, resources, outreach and advocacy to help build and sustain a socially just campus community that is welcoming and inclusive of all people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expression.
PFLAG is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families, and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights.
