LINCOLN, NE – OutNebraska Community Organizer Aryn Huck issued the following statement today after LB 575 was advanced by the Education Committee on a 5-3 vote:
We all want to see our kids thrive and succeed at school. Trans youth shouldn’t be excluded from opportunities to learn confidence, self-respect and teamwork like everyone else.
By excluding kids from sports, or not allowing them to continue using the school facilities they’ve been using, LB 575 sends the message that not everyone is welcome. Singling out kids who want to belong will only harm them in the long term.
This bill is a distraction from the real issues Nebraskans care about. We hope our senators can move forward and work together to pass legislation that benefits all of our students, including trans kids.
