U.S. v. Skrmetti Supreme Court Ruling

LINCOLN, Neb. – In response to the U.S. Supreme Court landmark ruling allowing Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth to remain in effect:

We are devastated by the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth. Our hearts are with young people and their families facing persistent discrimination against transgender individuals, both at the state and federal levels.

It is important to note that this ruling does not impact current laws regarding gender-affirming care in Nebraska. However, it reinforces the urgency of protecting against discrimination in all areas of life, including the workplace—regardless of race, gender, or sexuality.

As our Pride flags fly this season, we remain deeply committed to supporting and uplifting our LGBTQ+ community—now more than ever. Transgender youth deserve love, affirmation, and care not only at home but also within our legal systems.

We encourage our community to take time today to process, rest, and care for yourselves and your loved ones. Tomorrow, we rise—stronger and prouder. The work is far from over. We urge everyone to stay engaged and continue advocating for justice.

We recognize how painful and harmful this decision may be, especially for transgender Nebraskans. We see you. We hear you. We stand with you.
