We invite you to join Urban Abbey and OutNebraska for a Trans Rights Day of Action on Sunday, January 14th from 1 pm – 4 pm. This event will be held at Urban Abbey, located at 1026 Jackson St. in Omaha, NE. This will be an opportunity to hear from community organizers about LGBTQ+ rights in Nebraska, find out what action items and next steps need to be taken care of to defend trans rights, and ask questions about LGBTQ+ organizing. We will then gather together to write letters to our representatives in support of our LGBTQ+ community members.
If you have further questions about LGBTQ+ issues, and especially issues of the intersections between faith and LGBTQ+ identity, a reading list will be provided for further reflection. We will also feature copies of these books in the shop for purchase.
We will provide a complimentary meal and water, and the coffee bar will be open for purchases. Educational materials and letter writing supplies will be provided.
This form includes a suggested donation of $10. This donation will be used to help with costs related to hosting the event and contribute to our social justice work. This donation is NOT required to attend – just type a zero in the amount line to continue.
City-owned street parking is available on all sides of the building, and there is a city-owned parking garage located directly across the street. City-owned parking may be paid for via the ParkOmaha app, or with cash or card. A privately owned parking lot is also available next door and can be paid for online by card.
The venue is wheelchair accessible. Face masks are optional, and are available upon request. Our location has access to two gendered restrooms – however, we welcome you to use whichever restroom you feel most comfortable using, regardless of gender or presentation. If you have questions regarding accessibility and accommodations, or any other general questions about the event, feel free to email Gab at Manager@TheUrbanAbbey.org.
