What is the tour like?:
Your crane viewing experience will begin in our visitor’s center with important information about Sandhill Cranes and your tour. After this initial introduction, you will meet your guides and gather for a walk to our Discovery Stations which will end with a walk in the dark. However, red flashlights will be provided to assist with the walk. You will remain will this group for the duration of your crane viewing tour. Upon arrival at the Discovery Station you will need to enter quietly and find a place at the windows. Talking and noise is discouraged to protect the birds and the experience for others. In the Discovery Station, there are benches located along the back wall that maintain a view of the river and a warming room attached. These Discovery Stations are located close to areas that are historically good crane roosts but the distance to the cranes will vary each day and night depending on where birds decide to roost. Whether cranes roost near or far from the Discovery Stations, you will be in the heart of the world’s largest gathering of cranes.
Cameras with flash disabled are allowed. Your guide will tell you when it is okay to use them. Tripods are not allowed.
