The Brandon Teena Story Screening and Panel Discussion | OutNebraska & ACLU of Nebraska

May 1, 2023 @ 7:00 pm CDT

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the tragic killing of Brandon Teena, a young transgender man and Lincoln native. Join the filmmakers behind “The Brandon Teena Story” along with OutNebraska, the ACLU of Nebraska and other community partners for a panel conversation followed by a screening of the film.

The panel will feature transgender speaker and author Ryan Sallans, filmmakers Susan Muska and Greta Olafsdottir, and Nebraska State Senator George Dungan. The conversation will cover Brandon’s life, hard-won progress in trans rights and visibility since 1993, and continued challenges impacting trans people’s safety today, including current bills in the Nebraska Legislature. (Given the focus of this event, organizers have invited all Nebraska state senators to attend and learn from this powerful film.)

This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required for all attendees and available through online RSVP only.

Register for tickets at this link.

Attendees are welcome to come for only the panel discussion if they wish; however, they must still claim a ticket to do so.

Content warning: This documentary is not rated. Its content includes discussion of murder, sexual violence and other difficult topics. Viewer discretion is advised.
