LB 89 All ages sports and facilities ban Advances from committee, OutNebraska Responds
LINCOLN, NE – In response to the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs committee action on LB 89, OutNebraska executive director, Abbi Swatsworth issued the following statement:
The fight continues as Senator Kauth’s dangerous bill moves toward debate. To be clear, this bill is a step backwards for all Nebraskans.
LB 89 creates a narrow and harmful definition of sex that restricts transgender youth, college students, and adults from participating in public life. By limiting access to government facilities, shelters, and spaces that are intended to be places of safety, growth, and opportunity, this bill further isolates an already vulnerable community.
LB 89 presents restrictions but is not clear regarding enforcement. This puts everyone in Nebraska in a position to be targeted and harassed needlessly. LB 89 is blatant Government overreach.
We defeated the Sports and Spaces bill last session and we can defeat LB 89 also. It will take all of us telling our stories, reaching the people who care about us, and talking to our Senators.
