LINCOLN, NE – Earlier this week, Senator Machaela Cavanaugh filed an official complaint regarding regulations created by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Senator Cavanaugh’s statement echoes the multitude of concerns expressed by families of transgender youth following LB 574’s passage. Throughout the regulation process, those charged with creating these regulations seemed unwilling to hear concerns from affected community members and experts.
“These regulations place an undue burden on families who are just trying to do what is best for their children,” said Abbi Swatworth, executive director of OutNebraska.
As a leading organization in the fight against LB 574, OutNebraska supports this action taken by Senator Cavanaugh.
“Senator Cavanaugh has correctly identified the financial, logistical and emotional hardships that these regulations create. We’re grateful she’s utilizing the available channels to call attention to them,” Swatsworth added.
At this time, LB 574 remains law in Nebraska. Affected families seeking care should reach out for support from the Trans Youth Emergency Project, a partner of OutNebraska and the ACLU of Nebraska.
