LINCOLN, NE – After the Judiciary Committee failed to advance LB 371 out of committee on a 1–5 vote, Community Organizer Aryn Huck issued the following comments on behalf of OutNebraska:
Nebraskans value their right to freedom of expression, and we’re relieved that the committee’s vote broadly reflects that shared value. Drag is a rich and diverse art form, and must continue to be protected as a First Amendment right in addition to other forms of expression, including gender presentation of all forms.
While this bill never should have been introduced in the first place, we hope this vote is a sign that our legislators are ready to move on and work towards building a Nebraska we can all be proud of.
