On May 16, the Nebraska legislature advanced a bill with extreme restrictions on access to gender-affirming care for youth and abortion. Despite a packed rotunda and gallery filled with opposition to this harmful bill, legislators ignored the will of the people.
This session has brought us unprecedented attempts to restrict the bodily autonomy of Nebraskans, with legislators disregarding, and often misrepresenting, medical consensus. Over and over, legislators have disrespected the democratic process, using whatever tricks they can.
Let us be clear: we won’t stop until “the Good Life†is extended to everyone. If passed into law, LB574 will without a doubt harm countless Nebraskans and damage the trust they have in their government.
